A NICE MEAL

In the Byward Market

there’s a fancy seafood restaurant.

I’d sit outside and panhandle

catching patrons one by one.

I vowed if I ever cleaned up,

found a place in the world,

I’d come right back here

and buy the biggest lobster in the tank.

Some years ago, but after I decided to live again,

Lucie and I drove back there.

It didn’t look as menacing as before, somehow

the concrete transformed back into just sidewalk.
